Dear Friend: The National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) will sponsor its Eighth National Conference on Blacks in Higher Education, April 14-17, 1983, at the Washington Hilton Hotel, Washington, D.C. The Conference theme, "Linkages II," signifies the importance of the progression which was made at the previous conference towards the development of a unified approach for meeting the higher education needs of Black Americans. In order to reaffirm, strengthen and expand upon this network, various sectors of society will convene to discuss and develop an action agenda that each group will enact in the years ahead. As you know, NAFEO is the non-profit, voluntary, independent organization which represents 114 historically and predominantly black American colleges and universities. These institutions, which annually enroll more than a quarter of a million students and yearly graduate in excess of 30,000 young Americans with baccalaureate, graduate, and/or professional degrees, are proud that through self-determination we, ourselves, are insuring the continued strength of our institutions. On behalf of the entire NAFEO membership, I cordially invite you to participate in this activity by registering as a Conference attendee. The broad cross-section of society that will participate in this activity is shown on the preliminary program. By completing and returning the enclosed registration form with your check, money order or organizational voucher, you may take advantage of the reduced fee for early registration. Your organization/agency is also invited to utilize this opportunity to effect direct linkage with the Conference's leaders in minority education by becoming an exhibitor. In order to maximize contact between exhibitors and attendees, the Association uses the technique of holding its registration as well as several other functions in the Exhibition Hall. If you are interested in receiving further information concerning the Exhibition, please check the registration form where indicated. Those who have the strongest commitment to Black higher education will be interested in becoming patrons of the Eighth Annual Leadership Awards Banquet — the occasion where outstanding leaders are recognized and rewarded. Persons interested in becoming Conference Patrons may register directly on the enclosed form. We look forward to seeing you at ANOTHER NAFEO EXPERIENCE — the Eighth Annual NAFEO Conference, April 14-17, 1983. Cordially, [[image Samuel L. Myers signature]] Samuel L. Myers President 31
