"YOU'VE GOT A FRIEND IN THE HOSPITAL"

DR. HERBY CAVE DAY

When Dr. Herby Cave arrived by limousine at Harlem Hospital Center on Thursday, May 13th 8:00 A.M., he was starting a day that hospital employees had planned for him to indicate that they considered him to be a very special friend.

"Dr. Herby Cave Day" was the highlight of the hospital's observance of National Hospital Week, May 10th-14th, 1982. The theme for the week was "You've got a friend in the Hospital." It is widely felt that during Dr. Cave's thirty-five years of service he has touched the lives of thousands of patients and employees in a very positive way...and that he is the best friend that the hospital and community has ever had.

For the past twenty-one years he has directed the Department of Anesthesiology; and is now serving his seventh term as President of the Medical Board. Known for his super energy and miltifaceted interests. He has been active in many anesthesia committees, many committees to fight discrimination in medicine, committees to motivate and stimulate the interests of youngsters in education with emphasis on health careers.

Dr. Cave actively participated in the civil rights struggle with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In 1958 he was a part of the health team that saved Dr. King's life.

Dr. Cave is presently Commissioner of the Mt. Vernon Board of Ethics; Chairman of the Education Committees of the Westchester District of the 369th Veterans' Association and Foundation of the Westchester Clubmen; Chairman of the Scholarship Committee of the Mt. Vernon's Community Development Scholarship Fund.

Other activities planned for "Dr. Herbys' Day" include an elegant luncheon hosted by the Inhalation Therapy Service, a "we love ya Herby" program in the Auditorium at 1:00 P.M., a reception following the program and a return home for the doctor and his family by limousine.
