Beavers, Jr. was elected chairman of the board, and Edgar J. Johnson, the company's first agent, became corporate secretary. In 1948, construction was begun on the home office building on the corner of Adams and Western in Los Angeles.

By 1960, the company hd [[had]] expanded to Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Michigan and Indiana. Insurance in force in the 60's ranked GSM number two amongst black-owned companies in the nation.

It was 1965 when the company dedicated the Golden State Afro-American Art Collection. This collection of murals, paintings and sculptures by outstanding black artists is on display in the home office and attracts hundreds of tourists each year. There are over 200 pieces in the collection, making it the largest public collection West of Chicago.

In 1974, the Golden State Minority Foundation was established to provide scholarships and grants to college students pursuing careers in business. The Foundation, headed by Ernest Shell, GSM's vice chairman of the board and former marketing officer, has expanded to Northern California and Detroit, Michigan.

Norman O. Houston died in 1981 after serving the company 56 years as co-founder, director and officer.

The home office auditorium is filled with awards presented to the company for dedicated service to its policyowners and the community. Community responsibility is a top priority for Golden State Mutual and has been a tradition since its founding in 1925. Company employees also take part in this tradition by volunteering their time and skills to community projects.

Golden State Mutual hs [[has]] 14 district offices, 4 sub-offices and 361 General Agencies throughout the United States. GSM's total income for 1982 was over 39 million dollars with over 4 billion dollars of life insurance in force.

Ivan J. Houston, son of co-founder Norman O., because president and chief executive officer in 1970 and is presently Golden State Mutual's chairman and chief executive officer. Larkin Teasley serves as president and chief operating officer, while Stephen A. Johns is the company's senior vice president and chief marketing officer. Together, these men strive to maintain the level of professionalism and community involvement that has been an integral part of Golden State Mutual for more than 58 years.
