Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. was founded in 1906 at Cornell University. It boasts a total membership of more than 75,000. The fraternity promotes community service, and since 1977, has been conducting a million-dollar fundraising drive to benefit the National Urban League, the NAACP and the United Negro College Fund. Additionally, the fraternity aids Black business development, works on youth development projects and sponsors scholarship programs.

Teamer to take office as new Alpha president
NEW ORLEANS, LA., will be the host city for the National Leadership Conference, January 25-27, of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, where Charles C. Teamer, Sr. will be installed as the 27th General President of the fraternity. 
New Orleads Mayor Ernest N. Morial, who served as the group's 23rd General President, will administer the oath of office at the Saturday Inaugural Luncheon. 
Teamer serves as vice president for fiscal affairs at Dillard University. A past president of the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers. 
In his home city of New Orleans, Teamer was cited as one of the city's 10 Outstanding Citizens in 1979, and was named one of New Orleans' 10 Volunteer Activists in 1980. He is a former president of the United Way of New Orleans and is on the board of New Orlean's Public Service, Inc.,
