Deltas to Honor America's Top 100 Black Women

On Saturday, October 27, 1984, Donald C. Walker, Publisher of Dollars & Sense magazine, and Hortense G. Canady, national president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., signed into effect an agreement that marks the first of its kind in history. This agreement, which was signed at Delta Sigma Theta national headquarters in Washington, D.C. represents a unique marketing program created by Dollars & Sense. This event, "A Salute to America's Top 100 Black Business and Professional Women" will be produced by Dollars & Sense in conjunction with Delta Sigma Thea and con-sponsored by major American corporations.

This historic salute will be offered in two forms: the entire 1985 June/July special issue of Dollars & Sense magazine will be devoted to highlighting the achievements of America's Top 100 Black Business and Professional Women; and an elegant reception/salute will be held to honor these women at the Dallas Convention Center, August 3, 1985. More than 10,000 people are expected to attend the gala event as it will kick-off Delta's national convention, August 3-8, 1985.

According to Walker, "A salute of this historic nature is long overdue tribute to the endeavors and accomplishments of Black women. Further, this presents the opportunity for sponsors to not only associate themselves with prestigious and progressive national Black women's organization, with over 125,000 members, but with a loyal and powerful consumer group. The marketing and public relations value of this event to these participating advertisers is astronomical."

Representatives of Dollar & Sense have approached major corporations to serve as co-sponsors to underwrite the cost of the reception. These co-sponsors will receive promotional consideration in Dollar & Sense magazine, the Delta Sigma Theta newsletter and various other media throughout the year, as well as have the opportunity to display their logos and merchandise their products at the reception.

The purpose of "A Salute to America's Top 100 Black Business and Professional Women" is unique in the respect that it is not only a historic occasion, but also represents a program that ties-in to Dollar & Sense magazine's innovative marketing concept called ADPRODISING; the best in advertising, promotions, and merchandising, combined within a singular integrated and specialized marketing strategy.
