BIOGRAPHY OF CARL L. WILSON

Carl L. Wilson was born in Warren, Ohio, the second offspring in a family of four children. His father M. Robert Wilson, Sr., was born in Danville, Virginia and was a journeyman Brickmason; his mother, the former Georgia Crawford, a native of Jonesboro Tennessee, was valedictorian of her college class, an accomplished pianist, and an elementary schoolteacher prior to her marriage.

The family was reared in Sandusky, Ohio, a small city on Lake Erie approximately half way between Cleveland and Toledo. Carl entered the public school system of Sandusky and ultimately matriculated from Sandusky High School. Shortly thereafter, Pearl Harbor was bombed. Carl was inducted as a private in the U.S. [[cutoff]] in October 1942.

In February 1946, Carl was honorably discharged as a Technician 5th grade. Taking advantage of the G.I. Bill of Rights, he entered the School of Architecture of The Ohio State University [[cutoff]] completed the five year course in June [[cutoff]] received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architecture. Pursuit of engineering degree [[cutoff]] black students was discouraged at the time. Carl became the first black graduate of the Ohio School of Architecture in over 50 years!
