The Marriage Ceremony

Prior to the entrance of the bridal party, soloist Nancy Williams sang "The Simple Song" by Bernstein. The organist, Michael Williamson, played the bridal chorus. As three hundred and fifty family and friends watched with pride, the couple exchanged the marriage vows and and covenant, then exchanged wedding rings with the traditional ring pledge and marriage prayer. Ms. Williams came back to sing "The Lord's Prayer" before the benediction and the bridge and groom walked the isle of wedded bliss, then formed a receiving line so their family and friends could wish them a happy life together.

The Reception

The fabulous reception was held in the main dining room at Tavern on the Green in Central Park. Under new ownership, one's eyes couldn't help but gaze at the zillions of tiny white lights that's attached to every tree, regardless of the size that surrounds the famous restaurant. It is truly something to behold! There was a cocktail hour prior to dinner where one saw old friends and met new ones. I had a chance to see and chat with friends I haven't seen in ages.

Everyone was assigned to tables and I had the pleasure of sharing one with Lt. Col. and Mrs. Woodrow Bivens, Col. & Mrs. Elton Williams, Mr. & Mrs. Irving Burgie, Mr. & Mrs. Ernest Bryon and Eleanor Gibson. The music was great and the dance floor was always crowded as the New York Suite, a group of good looking musicians headed by David Barron of Cambria Heights played their hearts out.

Couple Met In Peace Corp

The bride's father, former Judge Simeon Golar, thanked those who came to see his eldest daughter marry the gentleman she met in Africa while both were serving in the Peace Corps. He said they made a beautiful couple and he was looking forward to seeing "the little ones" when they begin their family.

The grooms father, Dr. Winston Richie also praised the lovely couple and said he didn't lose a son, but gained a daughter.

Katherine Golar caught the bridal bouquet. The bride and groom cut the wedding cake, toasted one another, and looked radiant as they visited each table and chatted with those assembled. It was a perfect setting for a perfectly coordinated affair that left nothing for one's imagination. But then what's left anyway when one is invited to an affair that spells nothing but C-L-A-S-S from A to Z.

The twelve members of the wedding party were: The best man, Paul S. Mason, Maid of Honor, Katherine A. Golar, Bridemaids. Laurel J. Richie, Linda A. Wright, Monica J. Merritt, Lorena Parrish, Cheryl Dudley. The Ushers were: Nditsheni Khasane, Henry M. Jourdain, Reuben Brown, David Dobrowolski and Dwight L. Bush.
