Office Sub Com'r. Freed. Bureau
Columbus Miss. Dec 30th 1865

Lieut. E. Bamberger
A. A. A. G. F. B.
Jackson Miss.

Lieutenant,
I have the honor to report in accordance with General Orders No. 4. Act. Asst. Com'r. Freedmens Bureau for Northern District of Miss.

The difficulties between the Freedmen and their employers have been more numerous, though generally not so important, during this month than heretofore.

The principal complaint of the planters has been that the Freedmen would not contract for next year, strange and idle rumors having filled their ears, concerning great donations from the Gov't. they expected to receive, which ideas as injurious to them as false it seems almost impossible to dispell. And now since Christmas (the day appointed for "the good time") has come and gone and their expectations have not been realized
