Yet we have those who are cruel to their Laborers, and are violating the rules, that they are to be governed by. Tomorrow I expect to have several bad characters to act upon, I sent for them this evening  They live some twenty miles distant. Several cases of cruel treatment to Freedmen were reported to me - by a Planter, the parties live in the State of Ala -

Freedmen occasionally violate Contracts by leaving Plantations, to find employment elsewhere. I have such arrested imprisoned, punished and returned to the same plantation.

Since here I have requested of Post Commander, but 21 rations for prisoners and 15 for Refugees issued. When I desire rations issued or transportation furnish to those connected with Bureau I send a request for the same to Col. Clarke

Post Commander - who orders the rations issued by Post Commissary - and transportation furnish by proper Offices. Col. Clark gives me all the assistance necessary.
 
I have visited the Freedmens Camp, several times, and found all prospering finely - considering circumstances. Shelter poor - health very good. Food plenty. I sent you a Telegraph[[?]] on the 29th Ult. giving number of men women and children (Total 283) Many of the women and men have found employment since you was in Macon. Corporal Kane still has charge of Camp. I spoke to him about starting a school, he promised to do so. But we can not procure proper books at present. The Harrison plantation, is now in charge of Mr Harrisons Nephew - who Superintends for Young Harrison. Since you were here the body of the old Gentleman has been found. he was murdered by his former slaves. Several have been arrested, who admit that Harrison was murdered on the Plantation, but state that those who committed the deed have escaped -
