I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt, this day of Letters dated 3rd & 4th August. from your office.

What should be the heading of my Letters? My instructions require me to sign myself as Provost Marshall until further orders.

Does the enrollment of Freedmen required in General Orders No 5. paragraph V office Asst Comsr refer to Plantations and must I require Planters to furnish me a new list, of men women & children, as the agreements that I have been using only give the name of Laboring Hands and number of children
