I have the honor to make the following reports for the month of August 1865

"Number of Freedmen in the Country is about (25000) twenty five thousand  About two-thirds of those are Dependents (or about (15,000) fifteen thousand) one half or three fourths of which ought to go to school but have had no teachers yet

"Number of contracts Registered (24) twenty four

"Number of hands employed (230) two hundred and thirty

There is about three hundred children in and around this City (Canton) that could go to school if there ^[[was]] teachers sent  There is an abandoned School house in the suburbs of the City with a little labor can be made to accomodate one hundred children in school
