I have been having some difficulty this month with the Freedmen at this Post because of a disposition on their part to violate their contract. They have given us most trouble in location adjacent to R.R. Quite a no. have been induced to go off from Plantations by temporary offer of higher wage by RR Contractors.

We are laboring ^[[insertion]] under [[/insertion]]  great disadvantage for want of small cavalry force to send out to the country, to enforce discipline 

The Detachment of 18th Ind. Cav. was removed from this place, about two weeks since

The Freedmen make great complaint of short rations
