We are going to be defeated in securing a school room, we had anticipated getting

The Col'd People ^[[insertion]] who [[/insertion]] worship in the basement of the Baptist Church paid them some money to finish and furnish the room and now ^[[insertion]] the Trustees [[/insertion]] deny the Col'd folks the privilage to use it as a School Room, and take the liberty to use it themselves for the same purpose

We need a suply of school books Spelling books are selling very rappidly for forty cents

The abuses of Freedmen are not so frequent as heretofore—

Heard of one Col'd man being murdered last week some twelve miles in the County. The supposed perpetrators of the deed have been apprehended.
