Sir I have the honor to make the following report for the week ending to day No of Marriages 2 = $1 00 " " [[ditto for No, ditto for of]] Contracts 1 = $1 00 " " [[ditto for No, ditto for of]] Chldren Indentured 4 = $4 00 [[tally line]] Total $6,00 The Clerk of the Court says he cannot issue License for Freedmen to marry by reason of not having Orders so to do I have visited several localities and lectured to the Freedmen and I find it is having a good effect The idea so prevalent among them that the land is to be divided is dieing out There has been but one trial this week before the Civil Authorities I was present. It was between a Colored Woman and White citizen in which the Citizen endeaviored to deprive her of a house she had rented until Christmas the suit was decided in favor of the woman I am Very Respectfully Your Obedient Servant [[signature]] John W Critchfield [[/signature]] 1st Lieut 50th U S C I Sub-Commissioner
