Lieut Col. R.S. Donaldson
Act. Asst. Com. Freedmens Bureau
Northern Dist of Miss

Col,

I regret that I was not able to pass through Jackson on my route here. the trains were so deranged - that it would have taken me - much longer - than to go by the way of Memphis - which I did.

I would suggest that Lieut [[Rew?]] Sub-Com-at-Corinth - be assigned to duty in Columbus during my absence he is eminently capable, and Bennett in my opinion is hardly competent.

I spoke to Lieut [[Rew?]] - regarding it, and if you relieve him at Corinth he can forward the name of an officer at Corinth to take his place.
