I am in great need of Blank 'Contracts' There are many employers here, willing & anxious to comply with the regulations of the 'Bureau' in the matter of Contracts, because they perceive it to be for their own security - - - - I have no instructions regarding rations, further than I am to feed the destitute Freedmen till I can find employment for them I should like instructions concerning the process of getting rations, especially at this Post where there is no Commissary - - Are Freedmen allowed to carry any kind of weapons, ^[[insertion]] Bowie [[/insertion]] knives, Pistols &c &c Please inform me [[?]] Am I to report to L. C. Hubbard Capt & Sub. Com'r. of Sub. Dist. or to you. The Capt thinks I should report to him - How are enlisted men on detached service to get their rations. At present no Ration Return is made from this Post The detachment here have rations sent to them every 10 days by their Reg't Q. M. - - There is no provision made for Clerk - This is a source from which I expected no trouble, & yet it has vexed me more than anything else [[end page]] [[start page]] since I came here.
