Jackson Miss
September 14" 1865

Lieut Col Donaldson

Sir
In answer to your note of this morning, allow me to say, that as the school was built and is owned by the citizens of Jackson, justice demands that I vacate it at any time they may demand it. My school month (for which the scholars have paid) will expire on the 6" of October. I would be much gratified if I could retain the use of the building until that time, if it could be done; if not I will be at a loss for an alternative. Will you please assist me and advise me what to do in the case.
