Saturday, Feb. 23, 1918

Orders of departure are here. The major knows when we go is the rumor. 

Case found by Doc. One squad is sent over to the hospital and we are reinforced by 20 new men from elsewhere. 

We officers are each given a squad to look after. I deliver myself to the 8th Squad on the value of real discipline and offer my services. 

Taken my suitcase over to Garden City and walk down to Hampstead.

Sunday, Feb. 24, 1918

Finish stenciling baggage. Trunks are taken at noon. Major almost embraces the medical officer in order to get him to pass the squadron. He does so and the Major at once becomes distant. 

Mandolins help to pass day. Get out our Sam Browns and oil them. The atmosphere is full of submarined transports and other disconcerting news.

Major has St. Pierce read memorandum to officers. Reveille at 3 A.M. Mailed 1/2 doz cards simply giving my name and address A.E.F. Via New York.
