Mr. Arthur Wellman,

Dear Sir:
A letter from Mr. Andr. Aagaard, and addressed to Mr. James H. Eckles, has been referred to a Committee of the National Geographic Society, on account of certain information which it contains relative to the return of your brother from Franz Josef Land during the coming summer. Mr. Aagaard intimates that no definite arrangement has been made for sending a vessel to Franz Josef Land for this purpose, and suggests that a credit of sixteen hundred pounds, or such a matter, be placed to his account for that purpose.

While the Geographic Society has taken no official action on this matter, it takes a strong interest in the work which your brother has set out to accomplish, and if it is proper for you to do so I should be glad to have you write me the particulars of such arrangements as have been made for his return from Franz Josef Land.

Respectfully yours,

au. Mar-27/99
