DERBY AVIATORS SWARM TO L.A.

Many Planes Pop Out Of Sky to Land at Clover Field

Roars of racing motors filled the air above Clover Field today as flyer after flyer arrived to enter the National Air Derby, which starts next Sunday.
From behind literally every cloud contesting ships popped onto the landing field, with both men and women flyers dropping down like a flight of birds.
Phoebe Omlie of Memphis, Debie Stanford of Toronto, Joe Bennett of Bradford, Pa., Tony Little of Buffalo and Ruth Steward of Kansas City were among yesterday's arrivals.
Contestants whose ships are expected to heave into sight today are Eddie Schneider, Walter Carr, Eldon Cessna, Earl Rowland, C.D. Beauchamp, Marc King, Lester Glasscock, George Shealy, Leonard Flo, William Musgrave, R. Purcell, Gerald Nettleton, W. Kehr, Alfred Spooner, Charles Goldtrap, Elmer Quinney and T.A. Walker.
One wife, Mrs. Clema Granger, will fly against her husband. Jim Granger of Santa Monica. Another wife, Mrs. Pete Reinhart, will accompany her noted endurance-flying husband as passenger. Ruth Stewart of Kansas City will have her mother as passenger in the Los Angeles to Cleveland feminine derby.

WOMEN PREPARE FOR AIR DERBY
