Dear Mr. Carvale:

Not having heard from you since I left Paris worries me, as it would seem that you have either not met the young man who was mentioned to us as a possible negotiator and who could have been of particular use in our endeavors, or, having met him, he did not fulfill your expectations. Either of these alternatives is rather upsetting, as it would mean that so much of our labor and time has been, temporarily at least, in vain.

There is, therefore, little for me to write about as after all we have reached a point where action is needed and as neither you nor I can undertake such negotiations, we will have to wait, I am afraid, until we can find such a person whom we will be able to entrust with such delicate missions. This is the more distressing as in the course of my trip across France I have heard and learned about some interesting paintings and works of art, but our agenda is already sufficiently crowded not to add any more to the list until we have found the proper person.

I shall remain at the above address until August 1st and a line from you would please me considerably.

Yours very sincerely,

Germain Seligman

Le Ritz continuera a me faire suivre mon courrier.
