more satisfactory to ship the portrait to you, but what form of insurance should cover it? In any case, should it prove authentic, it, it should be removed to a more favorable climate as, in the few months since I first saw, the paint has definitely suffered. 
The portrait is [[?]] in browns and blacks, other than the skin tone, the light [[vest?]] and the left sleeve, which is a deep orange. It is on canvas. The only lable [[label]] is  the one returning to "Gallery:

employed them. It was, perhaps, a tactful way of giving them a substantial sum of money. Mr. and Mrs. Van [[?]] were not even told that it might be valuable, but the art professor at the state university advised them of its extraordinary value. As they are now in my employ, they asked me if I would help them as they know nothing about painting and were afraid of unscrupulous dealers.
