Dear Mr. Seligman,

Thank you for your very kind letter.

I have not been able to get a photograph of the Odazzi fresco yet: the old negative was apparently one of the war casualties of LUCE ( now Gabinetto Nazionale Fotografico who cannot trace it & had considerable bombing losses.) It was, however, printed and I am going to have the [[strikethrough]] photograph [[/strikethrough]] ^[[book]] copied. Unfortunately I don't have the reference at hand, but I will send it to you with a print.

Might I have another copy of the photograph you sent me of the drawing? I want to send this to the Victoria & Albert Museum which has a very interesting painted model of [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] ^[[a]] dome which I saw last Fall ^[[very briefly]] and from which I took the impression that it might be related to the Odazzi fresco. But don't be [[underlined]] too [[/underlined]] optimistic as to this, for my memory plays perfectly terrible tricks.

I don't think too much can be told from Canova signatures but I would very much like to see the one you spoke of. Posthumous signatures done by the artist's assistants often are perfectly convincing, at least this side of the F.B.I. But luckily we know pretty well what Canova did and what was left unfinished at his death: maybe the sculpture can be checked that way.

And thank you for your kind invitation. I'll be down to New York early in March with John M. and do hope and expect to arrange to accept it then.
With very best wishes,
Yours faithfully,
