Dear Mr. Clark,

In the course of the next day or two you will receive from Chenue a woman's portrait by ROMNEY. We wish the old varnish taken off and the picture thoroughly cleaned. As you realize, This is a very important painting, and we are leaving it to you to do the very best you can to rejuvenate it.

Anyhow, I expect to be in London, myself, around about the 22nd of April and will come in to see you.

In the meanwhile, however, we would like you to please go ahead on this painting.

Very truly yours,

JACQUES SELIGMANN & CO., Inc.
