Dear Sirs:

We have just received the other day from you the painting by JUDITH LEYSTER, which we loaned to you last October for the traveling Dutch Exhibition.
This painting, we are sorry to say. has not been returned in good condition and we shall, therefore, have to make claim for payment of the cost of restorations, which we suppose you can collect from your insurance. Our restorer has examined the painting and has given us a rough estimate of $25.- to $30.- for this work.
The surface of the canvas has obviously been damaged through handling, or more probably, in the packing and unpacking, for there are very definite evidences of scratching and further blemishes which necessitate various restorations.
Of course, it is very difficult for us to continue to cooperate in these exhibitions if our objects are damaged in this fashion, and we would appreciate a line from you regarding this matter.
Inasmuch as Mrs. McMahon is now in Europe, we do not know who is in charge, but we presume that this matter will receive your careful consideration.

Very truly yours,

JACQUES SELIGMANN & COMPANY, Inc.
