Dear Mr. Seligmann:

Last spring I wrote to you in regard to the exhibition which I thought would take place in the fall and, as I received no answer, I made arrangements to go South. Moreover, not knowing what plans you had in regard to the exhibition and not hearing from you, I started writing a book.

Later I received a letter from Mrs. Parker, stating that you would be interested in going ahead with the exhibition. At that time, of course, it was too late for me to put everything aside, including plans for going South, and undertake the preparation of a fall exhibition. Since great expenditures involved in shipping, as well as personal expenses for Miss Lambert, in connection with the European exhibitions and since I received the finest reviews from European critics, I deemed it advisable to have the exhibition go over the country. However, it was my aim to discuss the matter with Mrs. Parker with no other thought in mind than to see if such plan met with the approval of the Seligmann Galleries. In a word, I did not want to make one move which would not meet with their approval.

It was my aim to have a New York exhibition in the spring and Mrs. Parker informed me in no uncertain terms that that was the
