Captain,
I have the honor to send the dimensions of Wards VI and VII Foster U.S.A. General Hospital at Morehead City N.C. turned over to this Bureau in compliance with S.O. No. 20102 Par. II series of 1865 H'd Qrs. Dist. of New Berne N.C. Each ward is 66 feet long, 44 feet wide and walls 10 feet high.

I have seen Capt. Gear; he has received no orders to turn over the wards; Dr. Congill received an order; perhaps it was intended for Capt. Gear; please ascertain at Dist. H'd. Qrs. if this is so; it will not look right for the Bureau and Q.M Dept. both to bear the same building on their Returns.

Capt. Gear requests you to send him voucher signed (forms 27 and 32 Q.M. Dept.) for January and February for "Forage", for one public house, the one here; he has no horses except those necessary for his own use.
When I went over to Morehead City this morning to investigate the cases of the two "Freedmen" arrested by the Mayor on charge of riotous conduct (of which I left you a memorandum) Lt. McCarrey the Post Commander, informed me, that he had received a telegram from Dept. H'd. Qrs. directing that the men be retained by the Civil Authorities, until he (Lt McCarrey) should make a written report to Dept. Hd. Qrs.

Captain, would it not be advisable for you to see or write Col. Whittlesey, about the cases of Morehead City and similar ones that may occur elsewhere, in order that he may consult with the Gen'l Com'd'g the Dept. about them?

In coming from Morehead City yesterday, I meet A.H. Galloway (colored) who told me that he was going up to see you in relation
