[[underlined]] Rachel Mashburne [[/underlined]] (Cold) being sworn, says that she was formerly a slave and belonged to Mr. [[underlined]] John Williams [[/underlined]] of [[underlined]] Onslow County [[/underlined]] North Carolina, that since the end of the war she has continued to live with said [[underlined]] Williams [[/underlined]] as a cook and field hand in his promise to pay her "what was right" for her labor. That her four children named "[[underlined]] Isaac [[/underlined]]" about 4 years "[[underlined]] Nat [[/underlined]]" aged about 10 years, "[[underlined]] Hannah [[/underlined]]" aged about 8 years and
"[[underlined]] Hester [[/underlined]]" aged about 8 years (twins) were also living with me on said [[underlined]] Williams [[/underlined]] plantation. That said [[underlined]] Williams [[/underlined]] beat and kicked this dependent and that in consequence of said treatment this dependent was compelled to leave said plantation.
