not under such circumstances to refuse a pardon in [[underlined]] that [[/underlined]] case but in this we have no such hope.

This case becomes more outrageous as being against a freedman of this District the proof being that Bond had been a resident here for the past four years an honest industrious boy and nothing exhibited by which it would appear he ever set foot within the State of Maryland.

I have been familiar with every Step taken by Mr. Wilson in the management of this case and know that everything was done that could have been done consistently, and that he was well and ably defended.
