Washington D.C. Oct. 21" 1867

Ann Zurke (Cold.) States that her son Charles H. Zurke aged 11 years, received transportation to New York, October 4th 1867; that on the evening of of October 5th 1867, he came back to Washington, having ridden from New York concealed in the "dust box" of the engine; that on the following Friday October 11" '67, she purchased a ticket, and sent him back to New York, but he again returned to this city on Monday 14th inst, concealed in the same manner as before; that he has been here ever since, running the street, and getting into all manner of mischief; that he is a very bad boy, and unless something is done for his good, she fears he will be put in prison; would like him sent to some institution where he will be taken care of, or to some person who will take an interest in him.
