America's First Woman Flier Likes Jet Ride Cleveland, Sept. 6 (U.P.)— Mrs. Blanche Stewart Scott, 56, the first woman in America to fly an airplane, took a ride in a jet plane today with the nation's top supersonic pilot. "It's wonderful. Really a superior way to travel," she said as she climbed out of the jet trainer. Just 38 years ago today Mrs. Scott got behind the controls of a Curtiss pusher and, after an oral briefing on the rudiments of flying, took off. Today, the Air Force treated her to a ride with Capt. Charles E. Yeager in the two-place TF-80C, the trainer version of the Shooting Star.
