ALDWORTH (CONT'D)

Time passed the number of aircraft increased and a signal light was evolved and developed similar to a traffic light and capable of projecting a red, green and white beam of light. The beam of light was visible day or night for about two miles. The light beam was aimed at the airplane having the right of way either landing or taking off. The light could also be flashed, the flashes designating the number of other aircraft either in the air or on the ground.

The color green was flashed to designate the proper airplane to either land or to take the air. Red was flashed at the airplane for the danger signal and the airplane was required to either stand fast on the ground or to circle, if in the air, until the green light was directed upon it.
