ANN'CR:  How did you get into flying in the first place?

SCOTT:   The way I happened to get in the flying game was ironically through the medium of an automobile
    In May of 1910 I contracted to drive an automobile from New York to Los Angeles by way of San Francisco.  During that trip which was the first attempted by any woman, I covered close to seven thousand miles in two months zigzagging back and forth across the continent.
    After completing the trip and returning to New York the press agent for Glenn Curtiss approached me with a proposition to take up flying. The idea was agreeable to me but the absence of Mr. Curtiss held up the signing of a contract. He was in Europe - winning the Gordon Bennett racing trophy for airplanes.
    The day after he arrived back in New York I signed as an aerial performer and left for Hammondsport for instruction. At the field there, Mr. Curtiss took personal charge of my instruction although in those days it could hardly be called that.
