I can fly 300 miles while most New Yorkers drive from the office home, and it doesn't cost me any more to operate my Beechcraft than it does my automobile. Just for fun I've kept a record in a little black book. It would surprise you, wouldn't it, to know I can fly for only 8 cents a mile, which not only includes fuel cost, but also hangar rent, insurance, engine overhaul, and depreciation?

Besides the convenience and comfort of going from here to there in a short space of time, flying is a real joy. Those who have never flown have missed a great deal of beauty. They have never enjoyed a real sense of freedom. And flying is safe. Do you know there were three times more people killed in automobiles in New York City last year than were killed in airplanes over the entire United States? The only time I ever feel really safe is when I'm in the air. Which reminds me that one of the easiest and most comfortable flights I've ever taken was the trip from New York to Los Angeles in the Bendix Trophy Race in September. We were flying a Beechcraft
