Another Aeronautic Success.

The new dirigible balloon constructed
for the French War Department made a
[[t]]rial trip yesterday, as noted in a special [[c]]able despatch to the HERALD. Carrying [[f]]our men, it was manoeuvred over a distance of ten miles from the starting poin[[t]] and returned, the voyage lasting more than an hour.

While this trial was entirely successfu[[l]] it is to the aeroplane rather than to the balloon type that most experts look fo[[r]] that practicable navigation of the [[air]] which now seems neat at hand. The hopes of these persons have been stimulated by the successful experiment of M. Santos-Dumont with his Bird of Prey.

In his lecture before the United Service Association, reported fully in a special cable despatch to the HERALD of yesterday, Colonel J. D. Fullerton, of the Royal Engineers, took this view, as did also Sir Hiram Maxim and other authorities taking part in the discussion which followed the lecture.

Nevertheless, the success of yesterday's trial suggests that the possibilities of the soaring balloon have not been exhausted, and the vastly increased world wide popular interest in aeronautic sport stim[[u]]lated by the recent international contest at Paris is liable to have unforeseen results.
