Alan R. Hawley, J. C. McCoy, and Lieut. Frank P. Lahm have been chosen as the three men to represent the United States. Mr. Hawley has agreed to pilot a balloon entered by the Aero Club of St. Louis, and Albert Bond Lambert, the millionaire Honorary Secretary of the St. Louis organization, will probably be Mr. Hawley's companion in the balloon.
"I have arranged to meet Mr. Hawley in Paris and to make at least one ascension with him," said Mr. Lambert to the writer shortly before departing for Europe. "If my first experience in the air indicates to me that my constitution will stand more of them, I will accompany Mr. Hawley in the balloon City of St. Louis in the international contest."
