Sir:
In assertaining the better way for repairing flues at these barracks; I find fifteen 10 inch flues extending from the upper rooms through the ridge; these may be lengthened so as to reach through into the lower rooms, these with the addition to two new flues to each barrack, will require 250 feet. these flues must accommodate from three to six rooms each, so they ought not to be less than 10 inch.

This plan will remove all stove pipes from the sides & ends of the barracks, and give complete uniformity to all the buildings.

It will also be the cheapest, & equally as safe as any way they can be fixed.

This plan was contemplated when we repaired the barracks.

Respectfully Your Obt Servt
J. L. Roberts.
