Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands,
Washington, September 22d, 1866.

Brevet Maj. A. P. Ketchum
Actg. Asst. Adjt. General.

Major
As many of the requests to this office for transportation are to points not Rail Road Stations or Steamboat Landings, and it is necessary to state in the requisitions upon General Rucker for the transportation, the Rail Road Station nearest the point desired to reach, and the Transportation branch of this office is unable to furnish this information unless it be supplied with either a "Railway and Steamboat Navigation Guide" or Railway Map for the United States, I would respectfully recommend that the Chief Quartermaster of this Bureau be directed to procure for the use of this Office the Guide or the Map above mentioned.
