The enormous standing Buddha at Wat Indra Vikarn (Phra To) was disappointing.
Ended with visit to an Opium Den - men & women lying about on hard tables in dingy, dirt floor hovel, Opium smoking is licensed in these public houses, not in private.
Drive through Thieves Market where doubtful goods of every kind -- from sewing machines, furniture, to antiques of every description are to be had.

On tour met an American nurse Rosina Thomas, shy, reserved, dull. (Had dinner with her). Has worked for 2 yrs in Saudi Arabia, plans to marry & settle there - wants to see elephants at work. The complexities of people.
Went to see a Thai comedy in motion picture theater. Language is gutteral. Men sound harsh - women sing song - barely an inflection.

The color was lovely, brilliance native costume against native [[?]] & landscape. Sound stereophonic & surprisingly, Comedy was good - well acted. Bits (heightened [[motions?]] of running figures. American [[influence?]])
All in all very pleasant and well done.

Have seen the important govt, & public bldgs. universities, embassies, (Klongs) canal & food markets as well as the business areas. Much building going on as in Hong Kong.

In Ayutteia one can see the ruins of the ancient capital of Thailand.
