The husband appears to be about the same age. He is also tall & well built with a sympathetic smile & face. Mrs. R., Bracha & I discussed Tamara Carmen & gossiped for an hour.

Evening - dinner at Swerdlow's. (Met Richard & Romola Morse 621 Prome Road, N508. - just before Inya & Prome road meet.) She is not only a lovely, sympathetic & charming Indian woman, but intelligent as well. She studied at Cambridge for over 3 yrs. & used to teach high school in Ceylon before marrying Morse, who is a Ford Foundation man. They are good friends of Lewis & Sophie Mumford. Are interested in cultural activities & started a group in Rangoon - interested in

discussing aesthetics. They meet once monthly & members speak in rotation. Romola is to speak on Art & Religion at 7 P.M. on the 30th. She knows her subject & I enjoyed speaking with her.

Told me to look up an artist in Calcutta named Jamini Ray [[Roy]] - also the art publication called 'Marg'. 

After people left, Dr. Hauser, Eleanor Nelson & I remained with the Swerdlows, talking Yiddish & discussing aspects of Judaism & Hebrew.

Sunday. Jan. 16th

Rested & read AM. Early lunch at noon & then to the races at the Rangoon Turf Club- It was a most colorful sight. The Burmese costumes vied with the brilliant colors of the saris worn by the handsome Indian women - all white, gold & red, yellows. red & white, green, blue. Then the officials in their white uniforms, the twelve lancers in white, turbaned, with their colorful
