Friday, Feb. 18th.
Pwe & dinner at Minister U Win.
[[strikethrough]] October 14 [[/strikethrough]]

Started another sketch of Mrs Gor Booth. At 4 - drove to Carpenter for restretching canvas, returned, tired at 6.

At 7 P.M. went to a large dinner given by Minister U Win (Minister of Culture- Religion, & Economic Planning) given in honor of the delegates to the Asian Conference for Cultural Freedom. Besides one young man from the Ford Foundation we were the only Westerners asked. As the delegates came in we had an opportunity to observe them closely. A fine, sympathetic group of men as one would want to see & meet.

I contrasted them with the stolid, stiff unsmiling faces of the Red China group I had seen when the entered the Strand Hotel on their arrival. On the whole - a military look about them - coupled with an uncompromising air.
