387. Delhi Monday, 21' afterwards to Cook's to change some money & made a complaint to the manager, Mr. Winney. In case my flight is delayed in Karachi, or any additional outlay will be necessary, this will be on the record. He will write the New York office on the matter. From Cook's. I took a tonga ride again back to the hotel. The people look at one in wonder, a woman riding about alone. What fascinates them most are the shoes & my low cut blouses. At lunch, the waiter seated a tall, blond young man, about 6 ft. 3 - 33 years of age, who - immediately opened conversation & introduced himself as an architect. (Bauhaus school - worked with Gropius) named Derjan Dyk of the Netherlands - whose home is in Bombay. He told me he had designed 16 schools - showed me photograph, 2 Housing Settlements, & won several competition awards for his designs. Till now he has not been credited with most of his works - since he worked for 388 Delhi Monday - 21st an architectural firm. He has recently branched out for himself & is in Delhi with a government contract to design a new Exhibition Hall. [[strikethrough]] for Gov. [[/strikethrough]] He is fine, sensitive, humorous & deeply intelligent. As thin as he is tall with platinum long hair & smiling blue eyes. We had a sympathy for each other, discussing art problems on which we agreed - & when I told him I intended visiting the opening of the National Museum of Modern Art exhibitions, he asked whether he might meet me there. Rested from 3 till 4.30, changed & went to the show. S.S. Kupar & his wife were there & invited me for tomorrow to tea to meet Hussein. Incidentally, Hussein, is their most talented painter. He won the first prize & sold his ptg to the govt. It is a long, mural like panel, approx. 40 in high & 20 ft. long. He has an enormously facile talent & has taken a good look at most schools. The idea, of breaking the space into a series of pictures, with all sorts of motifs -
