May 13  Madrid.

After the Corrida, another café, then on to dinner, then to a nightclub. When we entered the cabaret, it was almost midnight, & we were the first ones there. Had the whole floor & orchestra to ourselves. I find it difficult to adjust myself to this way of life. One must simply sleep late & take siestas in order to be up until 3 & 4 in the morning. 

It was 3.30 AM - before I got to bed after packing my things when I got back to the hotel and I was too tired to fall asleep.

May 14' Madrid to Lisbon
At the air terminal by 8.30 AM, I was so pleased to see Juan who came there to meet me. He would not let me take the autobus out, but took a car to the airport. A long & expensive trip. "Debis verte alzama vey mas, Ana. Soy triste, es todo que puedo decerte. Adios, Ser bien, yo te amo.'

Seated next to me on the plane, Comm. Guido Mazzuchi, Italian, 59, divorced, Monarchist, charming & chic who one had, he tells me, the reputation of Mazzuchi Pasha - with women. Umberto, the ex-King of Italy is his close friend. Elsa Maxwell detests him. Is a former flier. Twenty-two years ago was one of the first fliers from Rome to Cairo (?) in 32 days instead of today's 32 hours. Now a businessman, dealing in sale of tobacco. Also a scientist & inventor. Has a patent being tried now for use of sea water in steam engines of ships (Sea water has not been able to be used till now) Also is an amateur art collector. Has bought & sold old paintings from time to time. One Florentine ptg. he bought for 8,000 liras - he sold afterwards for 2 million lira & the sale was widely publicized. Liked my looks & figure - particularly likes my nose. Carefully carried my coats,
