Dear Mr. Knabenshue:

I received your letter of August 8th notifying me that the autogiro activity is to be discounted and that you had contacted C.A.A. and that my old job would be awaiting me.

I certainly am grateful to you for making these arrangements for me and I hope that it will be certain that the job will be available if I come all the way back to Washington. There are several good opportunities open out here on the west coast, but I would much prefer to go back with the C.A.A. if I can be reasonably assured that the job will be available when I return. Anything further that you can do to complete arrangements for my reemployment with C.A.A will certainly be appreciated.

You can rest assured that the autogiro will be packed to the best of my ability and I believe that it will arrive at Manteo in as good condition as it was when it arrived here. I will take the utmost care to see that it is securely fastened in the box car so that nothing short of a railroad wreck will break it loose.

I had all ready started to dismantle it and get it ready for shipment when your letter arrived. I had received a telegram the day before from region three advising me to do this. I have the rotor blades all ready in their box and packed up and also the rotor head. I expect to finish dismantling tomorrow and then pack up all the equipment stored at the warehouse, together with the parachutes, blue prints and all other equipment that I have received. If I have the time, I will try to inventory everything and have marked on the outside of the packages just what they contain. If I am able to do this it will facilitate anyone who has to check the items when they are received at Manteo. I am fixing everything as I am dismantling it so that whoever has to assemble it will find all parts available at the places where they belong.

I will see that everything is included in the shipment. My own personal belongings I will not ship in the box car as I do not desire to have them sent to Manteo. I will probably have them shipped to Washington and ask them to hold them at the freight office until I can call for them.

I am rat her [[rather]] disappointed at the way things turned out, but I suppose everything happens for the best. See you soon.

Best regards, "Mac"
