ADDRESS ONLY
THE DIRECTOR, NATIONAL PARK SERVICE

October 13, 1941.

REPORT OF FIELD TRIP TO KELLETT AUTOGIRO FACTORY.

Left Washington at 6:30 A.M. on October 10, 1941, via Government car and arrived in Philadelphia at 11:00 A.M. Left Philadelphia at 4:00 P.M., and arrived at Washington at 9:00 P.M.

Object of visit was to make a personal inspection of the six rotor blades transferred from the War Department to the National Park Service.

Two hub forks were missing, and two blades had been stripped of the fabric.

Most of the repairs necessary are of minor importance and can be done in the Interior Carpenter Shop.

The Kellett Autogiro Company is working three shifts each day, including Sundays, turning out airplane parts for the Government, and to do this work would seriously interfere. Mr. Prewitt, the Chief Engineer, assured me that any good carpenter could make the necessary repairs and he would be very glad to send us detailed instructions how to proceed with the work.

I recommend we have the six blades shipped to us here, and arrange to have the Carpenter Shop in the old building do the work. I will personally supervise this work.

We will not only avoid paying the $1,439.69, the amount quoted for the job, but in addition, will save the $250.00, already approved for balancing.

Roy Knobenshue.
