THIRTEEN-PERIOD CALENDAR FOR 1936

For a number of years the practice of diving the year into 13 periods of 4 weeks each has been gaining favor in business. Divided this way, any period is directly comparable to any other period.

The varying number of calendar days, working days, Saturday, etc., in different months of the ordinary 12 month calendar often distorts seriously such vital statistics of business as sales, costs, production, payrolls, etc. For National Diary users who record such facts on a weekly or four weekly basis, the 1936 Official 13 period calendar is presented by courtesy of the International Fixed Calendar League, Rochester, N. Y.

1st Day Happy New Year 365 Days to come

Here goes into a new year - but in too much of a hurry to wait for Jan. 1st - as I used up my old diary in six months. I am on board the Isle de France, and have written mum details of the trip, so I can't repeat myself here. I must write up some odds and ends that happened in N.Y. during Nov though, & then add a few things about the boat in a [[strikethrough]] la [[/strikethrough]] Hybrid way - things I forget to write mum, or that happened too late for that. I have been reading the life of Vincent Van Gogh "Lust for Life" on board - after seeing his exhibition just before sailing. Imagine not beginning to paint till one is 27 - & then doing as much as he did before he killed himself at 37! The whole mod. art mus. [[strikethrough]] with [[/strikethrough]] was lined with his work & the floors were milling with spectators day after day. Somehow his things are great enough to reach everyone, so that is why. The bottom floor has his first drawings - [[strikethrough]] so [[/strikethrough]] black
