LEASE OF LANDS, TENEMENTS, &c.

Memorandum of an Agreement made this 14th day of February 1868, between Bvt Maj Capt Richard Dillon VRC USA Com [[strikethrough]] Financial Agent [[/strikethrough]] of the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands, as provided for by the Acts of Congress respectively approved March 12, 1863, and July 2, 1864, and March 3, 1865, for taking charge of and leasing abandoned and confiscable lands, houses, and tenements in the Sub Dist of Beaufort and State of N.C.
and John Crampton of Beaufort in the County of Cartret and State of North Carolina 

WITNESSETH, that in pursuance of said Acts, and of the instructions of the Commissioner of the Bureau, the said Agent, for and in behalf of the United States, agrees, upon the terms hereinafter contained, to [[strikethrough]] lease [[/strikethrough]] gratuitously to the said John Crampton from the 29th day of January 1868, to the 29th day of January, 1869, the following described lands and premises, to wit: Part of Lot No 182 Situated on Pine St in the town of Beaufort Cartret County N.C. in accordance with instructions from the Asst Commr dated Bureau of R.F&AL Hd Qrs Asst Commr State NC. Raleigh N.C. January 29th 1868.

And the said [[strikethrough]] hereby agrees that one equal [[strikethrough]] part of the productions realized by the cultivation and working of the plantation aforesaid shall be promptly gathered, prepared, and delivered to the authorized Agent of the United States at [[strikethrough]] on or before the [[strikethrough]] day of [[strikethrough]], 186 , in proper packages and condition for transportation. 

And the said [[blank line]] further agrees, in relation to the employment and payment of freedmen worked upon the said plantation, that he will employ and pay them and provide for their families, in compliance with the Regulations of this Bureau, concerning the employment and general welfare of freedmed, which Regulations are made a part of this agreement, so far as they relate to employers and employed, and further that he will do all things required of him by the Regulations of the Commissioner of this Bureau concerning abandoned and confiscable property.
