International Aeronautical Index

The Institute of the Aeronautical Sciences is assembling a comprehensive index of aeronautical books, articles, illustrations, biographies..etc.

In addition to the above index, the Institute is preparing for publication

A Chronology of International Aeronautics

This work will include a list of happenings in the history of aeronautics from legendary times. Already, there has been compiled a consolidation of the principal published chronologies from all countries.

To make this work as complete as possible, the cooperation of all governmental departments having to do with aeronautics in all countries is requested. The Institute also requests that all universities and aeronautical manufacturing companies cooperate.

Request

If you wish to have the principal aeronautical events of your country, group or company appear in the Chronology when it is published in book form, please send the information in the following form:

May 31-June 2, 1928
Major Arturo Ferrarin and Major Carlo del Prete, in Savoia-Marchetti Monoplane, 550 h.p. Fiat engine, make record closed circuit flight near Rome, 4,763.7 mi., in 57 hrs. 59 min.

May 6, 1913
Langley Field Laboratory started and Glenn Curtiss awarded Langley Medal for his Seaplane Developments.

Information regarding notable flights, important government events, conferences, meets, races, dates of appointments of heads of governmental air departments, dates of organization of aeronautical companies with lists of principal organizing officers, etc., should be included.

These events will all be cross-indexed so that all may be easily found. This Chronology will become one of the most useful volumes of aeronautical history if the Institute receives wide cooperative support.

As the work is being done by unemployed workers, its preparation is without cost to the Institute. Therefore, when it is published, the price can be made nominal.
