The idea is that one line of the journal shall be devoted to a statement of the employment upon which the force was occupied, and the absence on leave or otherwise of any of the force.

One line a day is all the writing required. At the end of the month a glance at the journal will enable the Curator to fill out the monthly report which will not take over half an hour at the most lax calculation; and both the journal and the report can then be handed in on the first day of the next month, at a minimum of labor. The blank for the report can be printed on a whole sheet, for which the two inside pages can be reserved for matters, if any, not included in the form on the first page, which the Curator desires to communicate.

[[strikethrough]] To illustrate the idea, the blank is filled with red ink for a hypothetical month's work. [[/strikethrough]]
