My dear Mrs. Danforth:

I take the liberty of sending you these few lines on an art matter important enough that I feel it my duty to draw your attention to.

My friend and associate, César de Hauke, who, as you probably know, left for Europe some while ago, asked me not to fail to keep you posted should exceptional situations in the art field arise.

We have been charged by The Museum of Modern Art to dispose for their account of the three celebrated Seurat drawings from the Lillie P. Bliss Collection - the only ones known to have been executed by this artist in colored crayon. It is only due to the fact that the tendencies of this institution are towards more modern paintings that they are exceptionally willing to dispose of these rare items.

The three drawings are fully recorded and reproduced in the catalogue of the Lillie P. Bliss Collection, issued by The Museum of Modern Art, under numbers 57, 58 and 59.

The price which the Museum has put on the drawings is $9,000. Acting in this particular instance more in an advisory capacity then on the selling end, I felt you should be posted on a matter of such importance; not perhaps alone as regards your own private collection, but also the Rhode Island School of Design in which you are so keenly interested.

I trust I shall have the privilege of hearing from you in this matter, and if you so desire I would be glad to show you the drawings in Providence.

In the meanwhile,

Believe me to be

Yours very sincerely,

(R. H. Waegen)
